Friday Class Assistant

On-Call Independent Contractor | At Least 2 Shifts per Month

posted: September, 2026

We are seeking reliable, friendly, and physically capable assistants to help prepare for our Friday evening dance class at Carderock Springs Swim and Tennis Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is a hands-on role combining attendee check-in, payment processing, clubhouse preparation, cleaning, and equipment setup. Assistants will join an on-call substitute pool, with shifts arranged in advance according to availability and demonstrated consistency.

About the Role

Friday Class Assistants help prepare the clubhouse and create a welcoming, organized environment for everyone arriving for class. You’ll prepare the space and check-in area, greet attendees, process payments, and assist with furniture, supplies, and sound-system setup.

The assistant shift runs from 7:00–9:00 p.m. on Fridays. The class itself runs from 8:00–10:00 p.m. Assistants must be present for the entire 7:00–9:00 p.m. shift unless a different arrangement has been discussed and approved in advance.

Each scheduled shift pays a minimum of $50 for two hours.

We aim to provide assistants with a predictable rotation of at least two shifts per month. Actual shift frequency will depend on each assistant’s availability, reliability, and consistency.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing the clubhouse before class

  • Setting up the attendee check-in desk

  • Welcoming and checking in class attendees

  • Accepting cash and card payments at the door

  • Creating or updating attendee tickets in TicketTailor when necessary

  • Carrying class supplies into the building

  • Setting up the sound system

  • Moving furniture and other large items in and around the clubhouse

  • Cleaning and vacuuming floors before class

  • Cleaning and checking the bathrooms

  • Taking out trash as part of preparing the clubhouse

  • Assisting with other practical preparation needs as they arise

This position focuses on preparing for class and supporting check-in. It does not include post-class breakdown or cleanup.

Training in our check-in, payment, and TicketTailor procedures will be provided and paid.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Dependable, punctual, and responsive

  • Able to remain for the entire scheduled shift

  • Friendly and comfortable interacting with class attendees

  • Able to follow check-in and payment procedures accurately

  • Comfortable handling cash and card payments

  • Willing to assist with both guest-facing and physical preparation tasks

  • Able to work independently and notice what needs to be done

  • Available for at least two Friday shifts per month

  • Interested in becoming a consistent, trusted member of our assistant pool

Previous experience with event preparation, front-desk work, customer service, payment processing, venue setup, or TicketTailor is helpful but not required.

Physical and Transportation Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances

  • Use stairs while carrying supplies

  • Move furniture and other large items safely

  • Perform cleaning, vacuuming, and clubhouse preparation tasks

Reliable transportation is required. Public transportation to the venue is limited.

Work Structure

  • Independent-contractor position

  • $25 per hour

  • Two-hour shift with a minimum payment of $50

  • Paid training

  • Friday shifts from 7:00–9:00 p.m.

  • At least two shifts per month, depending on availability and consistency

  • Shifts scheduled in advance through a predictable rotation

  • Immediate start

Because reliability is essential to running the class, assistants must provide at least one week’s notice when declining or canceling a shift, except in genuine emergencies.

Why This Role Is Different

This is a good fit for someone who enjoys being part of an active, welcoming community and prefers practical, hands-on work. You’ll play an important role in preparing the space and creating a positive arrival experience for everyone attending class.

Reliable assistants may receive more frequent scheduling as they become familiar with our systems, venue, and community.
